Isabel Finds a Home

Based on the life history of an industrial steam locomotive, this book has been written for children, as an introduction about the importance of saving our railway heritage. It is hoped they – and perhaps grown-ups, too – will develop a passion for preservation at a young age, and be encouraged to join the thousands of volunteers who spend their spare time lovingly restoring engines and railway infrastructure for us all to enjoy.

Isabel is a real engine, and this is the delightful story about her and her life. As any Engine Driver or Fireman will tell you, Steam Engines come to life when they have a fire lit in them, and they all have their own personalities!

Robert – Bob to his friends – is an active volunteer on the Epping Ongar Railway, and “Isabel Finds A Home” is a narrative of her journey to the EOR. It has been brought to life by Alan Ward’s wonderful water colours. This is a story to be read to, and read by, children (of all sizes!) everywhere.
